Junior attack Kailee Beal is off to a fast start for the Montclair State University lacrosse team.

Beal, a Roxbury High School graduate, has a team-leading 20 goals and five assists through six games for the 4-2 Red Hawks.

Kelly Schoneveld, a sophomore midfielder, is also having an excellent season for MSU, scoring 18 goals and notching two assists.

Schoneveld (Morris Knolls High School) has started all six games, just like Beal.

Yet another Morris County player, junior goalie Tiffani Henderson, has found early-season success. Henderson has been reliable, making 57 saves for MSU, the two-time defending conference champion. Henderson is a Roxbury alumnae.

In the Red Hawks' most recent win, 17-5 over St. Joseph's of Long Island, Beal registered four goals and three assists while Schoneveld had two goals.

Sophomore Krissa Henderson (Roxbury) has eight goals and five assists.

SOFTBALL

Former Parsippany Hills High School standout Alex Hill earned two honors recently.

The sophomore hurler was named named the Louisville Slugger Division III National Player of the Week for games played March 12-18. She is the first Montclair State player to win the honor since two-time All-American Carolyn McCrea was selected in 2007. On March 19, Hill was tabbed as New Jersey Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, March 19.

hill1Hill appeared in six games for the Red Hawks as Montclair went a perfect 9-0 at the Rebel Spring Games to earn the Louisville Slugger honor. It was the first undefeated season-opening trip for MSU since going 10-0 record at the Gene Cusic Classic in 2003. Hill went 5-0 and didn't allow an earned run in 36 innings. She gave up 17 hits, struck out 45 and walked one. In addition, she picked up a save and posted two complete-game shutouts.

Hill, selected the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and to the All-NJAC First Team in 2011, paces the league in ERA and is second in strikeouts and third in victories.

Whippany Park graduate Jess Mucerino and Morristown graduate Rebecca Satz have helped New Jersey City University to a 4-6 record so far.

Mucerino, a pitcher/outfielder, and Satz, who plays first base, possess the highest batting averages on the team. Mucerino is at .457 with 16 hits, seven for extra bases. She has eight RBIs. Satz is two points higher, batting .459. She has nine extra base hits and has knocked in 13 runs.

Satz was named Female Athlete of the Week on March 19. She had two hits and two RBIs in a doubleheader versus Hunter College on March 17. She went 3 for 4 with an RBI against Saint Mary's of Indiana on the last game of the team's Florida trip.

BASKETBALL

Hanover Park grad Ashley Addison started 19-of-25 games for Molloy College. Addison had eight points in the last game of the season for the 11-16 Lions.

She averaged 8.5 points - third best on the team - and took down 3.4 rebounds.
