PEQUANNOCK _ Four numbers will soon be affixed to the girls basketball banner that hangs in the Pequannock High School gym.

It doesn't seem like much - 2012 - but, for the players who toiled to make a legacy for themselves, they are mighty significant.

HANOVER _ When Whippany Park senior guard Lauren O'Connor scored her 1,000th career point on Monday, Feb. 27 in an opening-round state tournament game against Glen Ridge, she felt immense relief.

Prior to achieving the milestone, O'Connor was putting too much pressure on herself. That was the last thing she wanted with the Wildcats embarking on what turned out to be a deep state tournament run. Whippany Park made it all the way to the Group I final and was runner-up to Cedar Creek.

RANDOLPH _ It wasn't the ending Randolph had in mind - a 61-39 loss to Passaic Tech in a North Jersey Section 1, Group IV semifinal on Saturday, March 3 - but senior forward Ali MacKay wasn't going to dwell on it.

MacKay instead looked back on what the Rams accomplished in the 2011-12 season.
