DENVILLE _ For long-time Morris Knolls High School assistant field hockey coach Kristin Haberthur, becoming the head coach of the program has been the fulfillment of a dream that she has had for almost two decades.
"I have been an athlete my entire life and have known since high school that I wanted to be a head coach," Haberthur said. "I wanted to emulate the great coaches that I had growing up."
KINNELON _ If anyone can tell if a soccer team is playing robotically, it's new Kinnelon coach Jason Potzer.
The former High Point girls soccer coach, who teaches technology courses at Kinnelon, was hired to take over the Colts in late May. He replaces legendary coach Steve Racine who resigned at the end of last season. Kinnelon finished with an 18-5-1 record and reached the Morris County Tournament final in 2011.
MADISON _ A soothing warmth came over Caroline McCabe during her first visit to the University of Richmond in late February of 2011.
It wasn't just the friendly coaches and players, the campus and, of course, the educational opportunities that impressed McCabe, goalie for the Madison High School field hockey team. One more element appealed to her - the weather.
MOUNTAIN LAKES _ It wasn't the longest walk Madison's Catherine Zimmerman had ever taken, but she looked a trifle uncomfortable doing it.
The senior midfielder would much rather be dribbling a soccer ball than acknowledging and accepting the honor of Player of The Year from the Morris County Girls Soccer Coaches Association on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at Zeris Inn.
