Mendham repeats as champion
MADISON _ The margin of victory was wide, way wider than Mendham coach Roy Hamblem imagined it would be.
The Minutemen took top team honors once again at the Morris County Winter Track Championships held on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Drew University.
Mszanski reaches new heights
MADISON _ As a gymnast, Mendham's Julia Mszanski was accustomed to repetition.
When Mszanski did something incorrectly, she went back and did it again. And again. And again.
First relays title for Mendham
MADISON _ If Mendham's Laura Papili needed any motivation going into the 2013 Morris County Relay Championships, all she had to do was bend her left arm, put her palm up and look down.
On Papili's wrist, written in pink and purple pen, was the number "59" - her objective in seconds as the anchor for the Minutemen's 4x400 team.
Mount Olive takes 4x800 gold
MADISON _ The members of the Mount Olive 4x800 relay team brought realistic expectations to the Wayne Gardiner Holiday Relays.
Marissa Karl, Lindsay Schafer, Jamie Tavalare and Sarah Masukewicz weren't being negative but, well aware of the competition, figured they'd be second or third and be perfectly content.
Falcons' Hatler 1st in hurdles
MADISON _ Emotions rarely come into play on days when Jefferson hurdler Katie Hatler is getting ready to compete.
Hatler has prided herself on the ability to be calm and focused.
Villa Walsh repeats in Prep B
LAWRENCEVILLE _ Villa Walsh indoor track coach Rick Synold refers to it as the "Pack Attack."
"We give up places," Synold said. "Our goal is always to pack in the points. Track is considered an individual sport but we emphasize the team part."
Title for Mendham; Richter sets record
MADISON _ Parsippany hurdler Karen Lobaton looked and looked for Samantha Kral but she was nowhere to be found.
The word was that Kral, of Randolph, was sick and wouldn't be competing at the Morris County Winter Track Championships on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at Drew University.

That's what Abby Seel of Mendham declared herself after winning the 1,000-meter run at the Wayne Valentine Invitational held at Drew University on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
Orji, Mt. Olive close gap in 4x200 thriller
MADISON _ The gap, Keturah Orji recalled, was "huge."
Orji, the sophomore running the anchor leg for Mount Olive in the 4x200 relay, didn't think she'd be able to overtake Morris Knolls' Candis Tanis. After all, Orji was 25 meters behind with not much race left.
O'Leary Meet lifts lid on indoor track season
MADISON _ Randolph shot putter Lisbeth Lopez shares a special bond with hurdler Kyle Holder.
The two have been best friends since third grade. It was Holder who convinced Lopez to become involved in track when they were in junior high school.
