HANOVER _ The Dudley sisters, Alana and Olivia, exchanged several texts prior to Whippany Park's game versus Dover on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
Olivia, now a freshman at Stony Brook University, told her younger sister, aiming for her 1,000th career point, to "keep working hard" and "remember what we practiced."
Crusaders win 16th in a row
FLORHAM PARK _ The best defense was a good offense for Morris Catholic, which used 19 points apiece from Sade Idera and Alexa Giuliano to earn a 59-34 victory over Randolph in the semifinals of the 39th Morris County Tournament on Friday, Feb. 15 at FDU-Florham.
The formidable task of containing Randolph’s Aliyah Huland El, the leading scorer in Morris County, was rendered moot when third-seeded Morris Catholic set a blistering offensive pace from the opening tip and easily built a 28-14 halftime lead.
Daugherty, Hornets edge WM
FLORHAM PARK _ Lauren Daugherty sat crosslegged in the hallway leading from Hanover Park's locker room at FDU-Madison.
It seemed the senior forward should have been excited, animated and on her feet while describing her game-winning basket that lifted No. 4 Hanover Park over top-seeded West Morris 50-49 in a Morris County Tournament semifinal on Friday, Feb. 15.
Burroughs set sights high
PARSIPPANY _ Freshmen typically set modest goals, aiming for a spot on the junior varsity or some quality minutes.
Ashley Burroughs made and started for the Parsippany High School varsity as a ninth grader so she immediately set her standards higher.
Morris Catholic advances in MCT
DENVILLE _ Not counted on for her scoring prowess, Anna Toke provided the offensive spark that Morris Catholic needed to get past Mendham, 50-34, in the quarterfinal round of the Morris County Tournament yesterday at Morris Knolls on Sunday, Feb. 10.
Toke, a junior, accounted for eight of her 12 points - matching her career high - in the third quarter when third-seeded Morris Catholic took command of the contest to gain its 13th straight victory and improve to 17-1.
