Madison, Newton claim titles

 

Second-seeded Madison, whose lone goal was by Catherine Crowley, trimmed Shore Regional 1-0 to claim the North Jersey Section 2, Group I title on Thursday, Nov. 3.

Crowley, a senior, converted 3:40 before halftime off a pass from Elizabeth Romano, tipping the ball into the goalcage.

Dodgers freshman goalie Nicole Ducey had 13 saves. Ducey faced two penalty strokes. She saved one and the other went wide.

Newton 2, Mountain Lakes 1

The Braves received first-half scores from Victoria Docherty and Natalie Rivas and captured the North Jersey Section 1, Group I championship on Thursday, Nov. 3.

It was the third consecutive sectional crown for Newton (17-3).

The Lakers' goal came off the stick of Macara Desai. Desai's goal knotted the score, 1-1. Rivas' goal just before halftime proved to be the gamewinner.

Morristown 2, Ridge 0

Olivia Graham and Callie Sundin had goals to propel top-seeded Morristown past Ridge in a North Jersey Section 1, Group IV semifinal on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Devon Colquhoun had an assist for the winners.

The victory advances the Colonials, the 2016 MCT champions, into the sectional final. Morristown will meet Montclair on Friday, Nov. 4 for the title.

West Morris 3, Chatham 0

The Wolfpack, behind a trio of goals by Faith Spaziano, shut out the Cougars in a North Jersey Section 1, Group III semifinal on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Assists were by Erin Rubright and Jackie Drzewinski.

Goalie Abby Chapin, filling in for Emily Egan, made four saves.

Montclair 3, Randolph 2

The Mounties, paced by Missy Wrede two goals, topped third-seeded Randolph a North Jersey Section 1, Group IV semifinal on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Montclair's other score was by Marley Schwartz.

TT Naslonski knocked in both goals for Randolph. Rams goalie Mackenzie Vorel turned back 11 shots on goal.
