Mendel's hat trick propels Braves

A hat trick by Morgan Mendel propelled Newton past Vernon 6-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Natalie Rivas turned in a strong offensive effort, scoring twice and assisting on two other goals.

Kate Barbato had a goal and an assist for the Braves. The Vikings' goal came off the stick of Shannon Gambuti.

Mount Olive 6, Sparta 0

Gina Verrone notched a pair of goals to pace the Marauders (2-1) on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Additional goals were scored by Alyssa Borozan, Anna DiRienzo, Matina Ypsilantis and Anna DiRienzo.

Verrone, Ypsilantis, Borozan and Annalee Smith had assists.

Madison 8, Mountain Lakes 0

Madison, fueled by Elizabeth Romano's hat trick, blanked Mountain Lakes 8-0 on Monday, Sept. 12.

The three goals give Romano, a junior, 50 for her career.

The Dodgers' other goals came off the sticks of Kerrianne McClay, Sydney Felding, Maddie Farrell, Anna Morgan and Jennifer Conroy.

Wallkill Valley 3, Jefferson 2

Morgan Carr struck twice and Fiona Blake had a goal, sending Wallkill Valley to a 3-2 victory over Jefferson on Monday, Sept. 12.

Julia Koonjy and Carly Wurster had a goal apiece for Jefferson.

Falcons goalie Joanna Szpernoga turned back 14 shots on goal.

Chatham 5, Boonton 2

The Cougars' Amrita Sooklal erupted for three goals to pace the Cougars in a night game on Monday, Sept. 12.

Chatham's other goals were scored by Ellie Walker and Caroline Paulson.

Makenna Sweeney and Julia Leva knocked in a goal apiece for Boonton.

Newton 4, Blair Academy 0

Natalie Rivas had two goals and as assist to lead the Braves on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Kate Barbato and Victoria Docherty also scored for Newton (2-0).

Morgan Mendel had two assists for the winners.

Mountain Lakes 1, Boonton 0

A goal by Isabel Schuckman 1:33 into overtime broke a scoreless deadlock and boosted the Lakers to victory in their opener on Friday, Sept. 9.

Isabella Fragomeni collected the ball following a bully and passed to Macara Desai, who sent the ball to Schuckman.

Mountain Lakes goalie Jessica Menack finished with four saves.

Roxbury 4, Sparta 1

Roxbury received goals from Jaymie Fiebel, Jill Nathanson, Emily Giordano and Emma Karnitsky and notched a 4-1 win over Sparta in the opener for both teams on Thursday, Sept. 8,

Giordano had two assists for the Gaels, who led 3-0 at halftime.

Sparta's goal came off the stick of Alexis Gudenkauf.

Mendham 4, Montville 2

Second-half goals by Olivia Coleman, Emma Gugliemmi and Sarah McHugh boosted the Minutemen to a come-from-behind win over Thursday, Sept. 8.

The Mustangs went up 2-1 in the opening half on scores by Rachel McHale and Brooke Radcliffe. Ally Reardon converted for Mendham in the first half.

West Morris 2, Mount Olive 0

Skylar Migliaccio and Faith Spaziano each knocked in a second-half goal to lift the Wolfpack over the Marauders on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Jackie Drzewinski and Sarah Bietka set up the scores. West Morris goalie Emily Egan made three saves.

Mount Olive goaltender Ashleigh Gallagher stopped 14 shots on goal.

Randolph 7, Pope John 0

TT Naslonski erupted for four goals to pace the Rams on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Naslonski also had an assist in the shutout win. Erin Corrigan had a hat trick for Randolph.

Assists were by Kasey Earle, Mackenzie Vorel, Erica Holowko and Carly Snarski.

Morristown 4, Chatham 0

Morristown, behind two goals by Olivia Graham, prevailed versus Chatham on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Marlena Fahmy and Devon Colquhoun also scored for the Colonials.

Callie Sundin had an assist for the winners.

Morris Knolls 5, Morris Hills 0

The Golden Eagles, buoyed by goals by Jill Lissner, Emily Blum, Audrey Veivia, Shannon Fitzsimmons and Rachel Mandel, blanked sister school Morris Hills.

Danielle Caby had two assists and Julia Anderson had one.

Reilly Anderson ended with six saves.

Parsippany 2, St. Elizabeth 0

All of the Red Hawks' scoring was by Olivia Bucciarelli in their season opener on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Lilian Tran and Nicole Calabrese had assists for Parsippany.

Bella Rocco made one save for the winners.
