Bombers keep rolling

Boonton, unfazed by a one-run deficit, scored three runs in the top of the fourth on the way to a 6-4 victory over North Warren in North Jersey Section 1, Group I action on Wednesday, May 29.

Mackenzie Thompson stroked three hits, knocked in a run and stole a base for the Bombers (17-9). Other players with multiple hits were Anna Lee Smith, Kim Cacciabeve and Kylie Morgan, who had two hits and an RBI apiece.

For North Warren, Brittany Lee had two hits, including a triple.

After Boonton regained the lead, 5-3, in the fourth, North Warren threatened, putting runners on second and third with no outs. Kylie Morgan got a pair of strikeouts and Thompson, the right fielder, made a catch of a long fly ball.

Morgan struck out four, walked none and scattered six hits.

Jefferson 8, Demarest 0

The Falcons (22-6) used the pitching of Melissa Jurkiewicz and the hitting of Kayla Weber to advance in North Jersey Section 1, Group III on Wednesday, May 29.

Jurkiewicz scattered four hits, struck out three and walked three. Weber stroked two hits and had two RBIs.

Claudia Tietz doubled and singled for Jefferson.

West Morris 9, Nutley 1

The Wolfpack rapped out eight hits and benefited from six walks and five errors in this North Jersey Section 2, Group III game on Wednesday, May 29.

Allie McCourt went 3 for 4 and knocked in two runs. Jamie Fesinstine had a two-run base hit in the third inning, putting West Morris up, 4-0.

Fesinstine went the distance, giving up four hits and striking out five. Nutley scored its run in the top of the sixth inning.

Hanover Park 1, West Essex 0

Chrissy Amendola had the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning for Hanover Park in this North Jersey Section 2, Group II semifinal on Wednesday, May 29.

Winning pitcher Sam Snyder allowed three hits as did West Essex ace Jenny Shaw.

Whippany Park 7, New Providence 3

Alexa Cozzarelli slugged a double and scored three times for the Wildcats in a North Jersey Section 2, Group I semifinal on Wednesday, May 29.

Brittany Funicelli had two hits and an RBI for Whippany Park (22-6). Rachel Grabowski knocked in two runs.

Jenn Sanislo (5 strikeouts, 0 walks, two hits) went the first four innings for the Wildcats before giving way to Funicelli (1 strikeout).

Pequannock 6, Pascack Hills 2

Nicole Hernandez (single, double, two RBIs), Christina Brizek (two hits, RBI) and Rachel Pierson (two hits) sparked the offense when Pequannock beat Pascack Hills, 6-2.

Christina Brizek pitched a complete-game five-hitter with six strikeouts and five walks. five. Brizek also went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Rachel Pierson finished 2-for-2 with two runs for Pequannock, which scored four runs in the second inning. Bridget Carr and Jen Daniels each finished with one hit and one RBI. 

Pequannock 4, Dumont 2

Pequannock scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to snap a 2-2 deadlock and went on to defeat seventh-seeded Dumont 4-2 in a North Jersey Section 1, Group II quarterfinal on Monday, May 27.

Five players - Nicole Hernandez, Eleni Lutas, Melissa Tahan, Bridget Carr and Kellyann McClain - had two hits apiece for the second-seeded Golden Panthers (21-4). 

One of Hernandez's hits was a double. She had an RBI. Tahan and McClain also doubled. Carr doubled and knocked in three runs.

Christina Brizek went the distance to earn the pitching win. Brizek struck out 11 and walked four to send her record to 13-1.

Pascack Hills will travel to Pequannock for a sectional semifinal on Tuesday, May 28.

Hanover Park 4, Madison 1

Sam Snyder's four-hitter and Alex Cosenzo's two hits and two RBIs highlighted Hanover Park's victory over Madison in a North Jersey Section 2, Group II quarterfinal on Sunday, May 26.

Snyder struck out six for Hanover Park (18-6) which took a 2-0 lead after two innings.

Cosenzo rapped out two hits and scored a run. Nicole Petrovich doubled and scored a run for the Hornets. Nicole Fernicola contributed a hit, an RBI and scored a run. Madison's Alise Bassolino doubled in her team's lone run in the third inning.

Defending sectional champion Hanover Park will meet West Essex in a sectional semifinal on Tuesday, May 28 at 4 p.m.

West Morris 8, Summit 1

The top-seeded Wolfpack erupted for four runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 7-0 in this North Jersey Section 2, Group III quarterfinal on Sunday, May 26.

West Morris (21-5) got a pair of runs on errors in the fourth inning before Kat Spilman slugged a three-run double. Spilman (4 for 4, two runs scored, two doubles, three RBIs) scored on a passed ball.

Allie McCourt added two hits, scored three runs and stole two bases. Winning pitcher Jamie Fesinstine went the distance, allowing one hit. She struck out 15 and walked two.

Morris Knolls 8, Ridgewood 1

Madi Housel (single, double, two RBIs) and Kim Felix (2 for 4, RBI, two runs scored) sparked Morris Knolls' offense when it beat Ridgewood in a North Jersey Section 2, Group IV quarterfinal on Sunday, May 26.

Ashley Lesch picked up the pitching victory for the Golden Eagles (23-5-1) with a four-hitter. Lesch registered five strikeouts and walked two. Kali Wolfer doubled for Ridgewood.

Sixth-seeded Randolph will play at No. 2 Morris Knolls on Tuesday, May 28 at 4 p.m.
