Morris Tech's Granata has high game, series

ROCKAWAY _ It can be said that the success of Morris Tech's female bowlers is in the water. Amanda Granata refers to herself as a "nervous drinker" when competing. Her Devils teammate, Amanda Lemanowicz, is constantly chugging in between throws. That perpetual need to hydrate may have played a role for the duo at the Morris County Bowling Tournament at Rockaway Lanes on Thursday, Jan. 27 as they had the top two girls high series. Granata, a junior, also posted a high game of 268, eclipsing by one pin the tournament record score established by another Morris Tech bowler, Emma…

Amiaga, Glunk excel at MCT Bowling

ROCKAWAY _ The pins teetered and seemed to fall in slow motion each time Emma Amiaga recorded her last three strikes. No doubt, the 10th frame, which closed out Amiaga's 267 game was tense. Amiaga, a senior from Morris County Tech, made it through the pressure situations, seemingly with ease, and had the highest game of all bowlers at the Morris County Bowling Tournament on Thursday, Jan. 23 at Rockaway Lanes. Amiaga, a resident of Butler, ended with five strikes in a row - the same way she started the game that would send her to the top. In between…

Piombino, Thies shine at MCT Bowling

ROCKAWAY _ With two weeks to go until the Morris County Bowling Tournament, Paige Piombino's favorite ball met an unfortunate fate. The prized Storm Crux, her treasured ball and a staple for at least four years, emerged from the return at Oakwood Lanes with scratches on it and, in Piombino's words, "chunks out of it." Piombino, a West Morris senior, had one option - get a new ball. Rob Plenge, the owner of the bowling center, provided her with a new one, a 15-pound orange, blue and turquoise Storm Sure Lock two days before the MCT. The ball proved to…

Winning weekend for Loyer

Vernon's Giana Loyer went into the bowling sectionals with the skills, consistency and demeanor required to be a champion. Loyer, a sophomore, made sure she had one more edge - a fine support system, consisting of family, friends and teammates, in place - when the New Jersey North Sectional Championships were held on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Bowler City in Hackensack.

Rhodes, Loyer among NJAC's best

SPARTA _ Sparta's Sarah Rhodes believes in the power of her lucky locket, the one that belonged to her late grandmother, Jennie. Giana Loyer of Vernon, Rhodes' close friend, is superstitious, wearing her black headband with the bow for important bowling matches.
