MCT Tennis gets underway

RANDOLPH _ For the last 24 months, the only thing that has been on Villa Walsh senior Jamie Campisi's mind has been redemption. As a sophomore, she raced out to a 20-5 record and took the top seed in the Morris County Tournament.

MCT Tennis seedings announced

MORRISTOWN _ Two of Montville's singles players, Kirstin Godau and Kaitlin Sanzone, received top seeds when the seeding was held for the Morris County Tennis Tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 25. Jillian Garfunkel and Joanna Fass, the Mustangs' second doubles' team, also received a No. 1 seed.

Mendham has a stellar cast

MENDHAM _ After dropping only one game in the first set, Mendham first singles player Lauren Hassell continued to dominate, going up 5-1 in the second set. Then, just like that, Hassell's game began to unravel. The play of Chatham sophomore Emily Sroczynski had a lot to do with it, as she slugged winner after winner and Hassell briefly lost her rhythm.

Herila, Vikings beat Madison

MORRISTOWN _ Katherine Herila's ascent from second doubles on junior varsity to second singles on varsity occurred not over the course of several years but within a span of two weeks. Well aware that all of the positions were open, Herila simply toiled in preseason challenge matches and landed the prime spot right behind Villa Walsh's veteran No. 1 singles player, Jamie Campisi.

Montville loaded, optimistic

MONTVILLE _ It is not uncommon for Kirstin Godau to let herself into Kaitlin Sanzone's house. Sanzone, too, goes into Godau's house avoiding the typical methods of entry - ringing the doorbell or knocking on the door.

Red Hawks trimmed in sectional final

LIVINGSTON _ Parsippany tennis coach Steve McCarthy has tinkered with his doubles combinations for much of the season. On Monday, the Red Hawks played their 14th match and McCarthy still was seeking the right pairings.

Montville lands spot in sectional final

MONTVILLE _ The end to the match was in close sight, a mere game away. Jillian Garfunkel and Joanna Fass, Montville's first doubles team, cruised through the opening set and went up 5-2 in the second set against Sparta.

Madison stays alive in state tourney

MADISON _ A year ago, Madison stretched its season to the limit, landing a berth in the North Jersey Section 2, Group II final but getting edged by West Essex. The Dodgers, despite losing their first, second and third singles players and its first doubles tandem, are on the march again.

Marx, Mendham dominate MCT

RANDOLPH _ Pequannock's Caroline Greydak contacted Casey Marx of Mendham over the summer and asked if she would be willing to hit with her. The two soon-to-be sophomores went at it in July, exchanging strokes at the Knoll Indoor Tennis Club in Lake Hiawatha.
