Softball: Dodgson paces Mustangs

Kelly Dodgson had a stellar day at the plate, going 4 for 5 and knocking in six runs when Montville posted a 16-5 victory over Kittatinny on Tuesday, April 4.

Another offensive standout for the Mustangs was Avani Dang, who doubled and had two RBIs. Izzy Bressman had a two-base hit.

Kristie Monaco was the winning pitcher, going the last 3 1/3 innings in relief of Jordan Strickland. Monaco allowed one hit and struck out one. Strickland started and allowed five hits over 3 2/3 innings but ran into trouble when the Cougars scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Jefferson 6, Chatham 2

Jefferson, behind Chelsea Bitondo's two hits and five RBIs and the pitching of Alexa Pettit, defeated Chatham on Monday, April 3.

Among Bitondo's hits was a double. Nicole Vassallo doubled twice for the Falcons in their opener. Pettit yielded five hits in five innings. She struck out four and walked one.

Carly Wurster contributed two hits and scored three runs. For Chatham, Anna Lengner had two hits. Halli Pellegrin and Morgan Pellegrin had run-producing doubles.

Morris Knolls 9, Randolph 4

The Golden Eagles, who received a two-run homer from Morgan DeLoretto and a strong pitching effort from Brooke Wiarda, triumphed on Monday, April 3.

Wiarda went the distance, tossing a five-hitter and striking out six.

The Rams' Michelle McMillan had a home run, a three-run shot. Mailynn Soto also homered for Randolph.

Mount Olive 4, Montville 0

Alyssa Mathura slugged a two-run home run in Mount Olive's four-run first inning on Monday, April 3.

Izzy Hendrickson had three hits and Alyssa Borozan added two hits, one of them a triple, for the Marauders, who scored all of their runs in the first inning.

Elisa Enslin scattered four hits while striking out seven and walking two to notch the pitching victory. Montville's hits came off the bats of Izzy Bressman, Kelly Dodgson, Gianna Palmisano and Sophie Velocci.

Pequannock 7, Boonton 0

The Golden Panthers, buoyed by Jonnalyn McClain's two-hitter, shut out Boonton on Monday, April 3.

McClain pitched all seven innings and fanned 11. She walked just one.

Jen Sigler tripled and singled for Pequannock. Additional top hitters for the winners were Juliette Davis, Val Florio and Hannah Brizek, who had two hits and an RBI apiece.
